Finally back to the gym today – feels like I’ve been gone a long time!
I’ve always had extra diabetes issues in association with exercise so was anticipating this morning’s RPM class to throw me completely – looks like I might have got away with it this time somehow though – not that I’m complaining!
I’d gone high in the night for the first time really since I went on the pump – my alarm went off at 4am and I did a blood test, returning a 13.0. I took 2u then and got up again at 5.20am to get to the gym in time for a 6am class. At 5.20 I was still 11.8 so took another .75units and headed out the door.
I’d spoken to the nurse about this and we’d made a plan – I was to disconnect the pump before the class and test halfway through, then at the end. All going well I could then jump in the shower and re-connect to the pump then.
By halfway through the class I was 9.2, then at the end I was 8.4, and by the time I showered and did my hair and makeup I was 7.2 – brilliant! And – I did have a bit of a lunchtime hypo, but I can see clearly from my tests where I need to cut back on the bolus, so hopefully I’ve got it sussed for Thursday when I do it all again. Will let you know.

To me this is the whole point of doing the pump and effort. Too many times as I’m sure you’ve all experienced, you work your @rse off just to get some disappointing result and you say to yourself – screw it.
So well done to you I say and may the government soon fund them publically. I’ll get on that band wagon!
