…well that’s what it will be if I keep up the hullabaloo of this week so far. After hitting a cool 19.9 yesterday from a pump/cannula failure, this morning I got up to 18.0.
I went to bed at midnight, with a steady 5.3. Got up to go to the gym at 5:20am – yaaaay it had gone up to 13.5 without any explanation! I was up and not keen to flag the gym so downed 3 units of insulin and headed to RPM starting at 6am. By 6:20am (about three tracks into the class) I’d gone up to 15.1. I tried one more track in the hope that it had peaked and was on its way down – not so – just six mins later I’d got to 18.0. Dismounted my bike, told the instructor I was fine (well I was really – i.e. wasn’t going to pass out or anything… but it’s always fun when the WHOLE CLASS is looking at you like you’re just too unfit to carry on), went downstairs to the changing rooms and burst into tears. This is the third RPM class I’ve had to leave in the last two months. And I was on FIRE this morning, had had a really good class and was enjoying myself.
Had another six units and hit the showers. It’s now 8am, and since 5:30 I’ve had 14 units of insulin, not a bite to eat, and I’m still at 16.1. It’s days like these I wonder if it’s best to give up exercise altogether.
I’m going to have to have a real think about my exercise regime over the Christmas break. It’s almost certain that later on today after I’ve got this high under control I’ll crash low, then have to eat extra food to get out of it, negating the exercise almost altogether (at least it will still help my fitness hopefully, but I’m not getting any slimmer). Maybe I need to give up the morning classes. If I do evening exercise I can almost guarantee a stable blood sugar going in. Hmmm.
I’d love to hear your stories and how you get around the exercise and diabetes scenario – drop me a comment in the box below if you will!
Have a good day
