…. so what do we call this decade? If last one was the noughties, and the following one is the 20s, what is this one coming up? The teens?

It’s been a great year for BeingDiabetic. Visitor numbers have quadrupled, the community is growing and getting stronger, and we’ve had several face-to-face meetings (albeit only in Auckland and Nelson so far but it’s a start!). Keep up the awesome work everyone, and thanks again for being a great, interactive audience willing to help each other out.

On a personal note it’s been a pretty full-on year too and one I’m really proud of from a diabetes point of view. Only you lot (and maybe our partners to a degree) know how difficult it is to get an HbA1c of <7% (the best I got was 5.8% by the end of my pregnancy) and some of you also know just how incredibly difficult it is to achieve a healthy pregnancy with Type 1. I’ve strived for a lot of things in my life but this is one thing I’m really proud of.

I’m really not much of a New Year resolutions kind of gal, but my diabetes intentions are to keep my HbA1c below 7.5%, keep fit, and keep losing that weight. I’ve knocked off all the baby weight already but there’s still room for improvement for sure :) .

Again I want to thank you all for your awesome contributions to the blog, and look forward to many discussions and laughs with you all in 2010. May this next year be an incredible one for you and your loved ones, and may we see some movement towards a bit more funding for those of us on pumps.

Lots of good wishes and luck,

Nic
