We’ve talked about this group before on the blog but I was sent this article about it and thought I’d give it another plug.
In short, a group has been set up in Auckland on the last Monday of every month for T1 women planning a pregnancy, who are currently pregnant or who’ve been through a T1 pregnancy. It’s run by a specialist diabetes psychologist and a specialist diabetes midwife (both of whom I’ve met and both of whom I rate very highly).
Unfortunately I work on Mondays as I’d love to go along and give a little back… but I would have been doing whatever I could have to get the time off…

I’ve been meaning to put this up for a couple of weeks…. in the latest national Diabetes magazine was an article I wrote about T1 and childbirth. To read it, go here.
If you’re interested in the topic of T1 and pregnancy, you can also see a full list of my posts on the topic here.
Finally, if you’re reaaaallly interested, I am speaking on the subject at the Diabetes Youth NZ conference in Rotorua at the end of August. There’s still a small amount of time to register, I believe – you can go here to do so.
Have a good week y’all.

…. just a quickie for you all. One of our readers wants to know what you should bolus for for mandarins and feijoas…. what sort of carb count are you all using, please?
The good news is… Michelle (who did a guest blog last week) gave birth to a healthy baby boy last week, Tyler Murray. Congratulations from all of us, Michelle!! Tyler was 10 pounds 7 ounces. I wanted to make note of his weight because Michelle had HbA1cs in her pregnancy of around 6, so ladies – don’t beat yourselves up if your baby gets bigger, there is only so much of this condition we can fight…. even if you…
Michelle (a fellow T1) is a new reader of the blog, and to my absolute amazement she found the time last week to write a guest blog. Amazing because she has two littlies and was 37 weeks pregnant at the time! Tomorrow, Michelle goes in for an elective c-section for her third baby. We wish her all the very best! Here is her story.
Hi all, my name is Michelle Cunningham and have been living with T1 diabetes since age 9 (23 years). My husband and I decided to start a family about 5 years ago. Following discussions with my specialist here in Whangarei over the previous months I tightened my control and started the old folic acid 3…

Bleeeurgh. I was feeling a little average last night and took myself off to bed early. Without going into any more detail, it seems I’ve caught a vomiting bug, and spent a good part of the rest of the night either trudging up and down the landing by the bathroom/toilet, or sitting on the cold tiles in said toilet, praying to the god of porcelain (except we have an old skool Caroma toilet which isn’t even porcelain).
A couple of good things: one – no-one else in my household has got it yet (touch wood) and two – my husband was able to take a sick day today to look after our little boy, because I feel so weak today…
