Last month I mentioned Ruth Hill, who is putting together an application to the Ministry of Health for funding for insulin pumps and their consumables.

She needs as many letters as possible to submit with her application, so please write yours and send it to her at ruthanna99@gmail.com. She already has more than 121 letters, but the more she has, the more compelling her application will be.

I’ve mentioned this before, and if you’ve sent a letter already or even decided against sending one for whatever reason, please skip over the rest of this post.

However, if you believe in this lobbying, and have just not had time to write a letter, you still…

Are you a member of your local diabetes society? How about Diabetes NZ? Say what you like about what you personally get back from donating to these societies (sometimes it can be hard to see the tangible benefits, I know) but there are lots of things which go on behind the scenes which you don’t necessarily know about (lobbying government for example, advising on our rights in primary health care etc) as well as some of the more overt stuff like conferences and the boring-but-necessary stuff like pamphlets for the newly diagnosed.

Hi everyone

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but do any of you get lancets on prescription? I’ve been back from the UK for three years now and have always just assumed for some reason that you have to pay full price for these.

Just thinking…. I’ve always been a bit stingy with how much I change mine, but if I followed recommendations (change every eight tests) I’d be spending at least $1 a day on mine.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Nic
