A couple of months ago, a good friend of mine was going through a horrible spate of bad highs that were proving to be completely random and over a period of about 2 weeks, were causing her serious problems. It seemed that no matter what she did, it just didn’t stop them from coming time and time again.

After a number of lines of investigation the only possibility that was left as an option was that the insulin she was using at the time was a dud batch. It’s not something that has happened to me but I have wondered a couple of times just how the pharmaceutical companies manage to ensure that the insulin they distribute is the…

As you might be able to tell from the picture on the right, I’ve been a bit crook this week and it’s not been very pleasant to say the least!

Add to that chest infection however, moving house, a small claims court case and a family member being gravely ill, my partner getting masters results in and trying to get ready to finish up at work and you have a whole heap more stress than I care to have in my life!

But there is not way I let him go off with his mates without his jelly beans and meter.

Aaron, as an…

I took my baby boy up to Wriggle ‘n Rhyme at the library last week. For the uninitiated, W n R is 25-30min singing and moving to music thingee that the libraries hold everywhere (all through the country I think, definitely all around Auckland). It’s really cute – they have a big colourful, glittery mat, and all the kids and their parents sit around it and sing some songs and wave arms about etc etc.

When I left the house I checked my BG and it was 6.5 but it was only an hour after a meal. The thought crossed my mind that I was heading for a low but I didn’t really have time to do anything about it…

Happy Fridays people, and for our NZ readers, whooooop!! Long weekend on the horizon! If you have time on your weekend, please do spend ten mins writing an email in protest at the proposed cuts to the Manawatu diabetes service. I’ve not written mine yet and will be doing so today or tomorrow.

The next Auckland T1 dinner catch up is looming – this one is on Monday, 14 June. I need to make a booking in the next few days so please contact me if you’re interested in coming along. (Those of you who’ve been before will get an email from me too). Or, you…
