I saw a mention of this in a newsletter which came into my inbox about World Diabetes Day and I was intrigued. What is this Desert Dingo Racing I wondered, and what has it got to do with diabetes? I went to their site, saw the car (see image on the right), and was instantly enamoured.

I remember as a very little girl my brother and I were big fans of the Herbie movies (like Herbie goes to Monte Carlo etc) and this car (a 1969 VW Beetle) is just like it.

Ahhhh this is the best news I’ve heard in a long time. Little Jenna, whom I did a post on last week (T1 preschooler, about to go to school, also has alopecia and needed a specially made wig which would cost several thousand dollars) has raised enough money to get said wig. I am so happy for her and I really, really wish her all the best.

Hi all

I’m pleased to tell you that I’ve just entered myself into the Auckland half marathon on Sunday, 31 October. Wahey! I will be power-walking it, mind. Running is no friend of mine! I did it once before, in 2007…. I was a complete walking purist – even Olympic judges would not have been able to spot me with both legs off the ground simultaneously. I completed it in 3 hours, 7 minutes.

This year I will undoubtedly get less time for training, with a little one in the house. But I’m still going to aim to better my time (I’m pumping this year as opposed to MDI last time which slowed me down when I had to stop…

What a guy! Thanks to Chris Murray for sending me the link to this article about Reon Goodwillie from Christchurch, who tomorrow night is taking to the boxing ring to raise funds for Diabetes Youth Canterbury. At present he’s sitting just under the $8k mark with his fundraising effort, (at the time of publishing this he was at $7, 935) so if you have a couple of bucks going spare, go here to pledge ‘em.

Reon’s little girl Olivia has T1. She’s seven now and has had the condition since she was 15 months old.
