As you know, typing is not something I’m set up to do in my current state, so the aim of the game this week is brevity.

With that in mind I thought I’d get a couple of quick whinges out before the weekend.

Whinge 1. When people think it’s funny to pretend they think you get high on insulin.

I had this at work the other day. The guy who said it is a nice guy and very intelligent, but not blessed with wit unfortunately. I was taking my BG as I spoke to him (he’d come over to my desk after all). He took one look and said something like “oooooh, can I have…

A good friend of mine has been running a shop on Dominion Road for the last ten years and as you can imagine, has seen it all. Dominion road is one of the more colorful neighbourhoods in Auckland with a good mix of people including a few undesirables, the weirdos, funnies, friendlies and everything in between.

I’m sure she thought she had seen pretty much everything that Dominion road had to show her by now but on Wednesday, in came someone that tried her patience in a totally new way!

I think she must have felt bad (my VERY curt response of “That’s EXACTLY what you want to hear from someone who’s about to take blood from you” may have made her think), because after that she tried to make nice and talk to me about my son and her grandson, etc, but boy oh boy was that a bad way to start! This is almost as bad as the bloodlab…

I’ve just come back from a diabetes check up at my GP’s.

Aaaand breathe.

You see – when I took my son in for his six week vaccinations, they decided to corner me about not having seen the diabetes nurse at the clinic for over a year.

“Ahhhh”, I said. “That would be because I’ve been under the care of the diabetes department at National Women’s for the last 16 months”.

“Well”, they said. “We need you to come in and we’ll go through a checklist of all of your vital tests etc and check that your diabetes is under control”.

Me: “Oh, but you see I’ve been under the strictest care I’ve had in 15…

I just had to write this post in my lunch break because it’s been distracting me from my work all morning. This comment actually outdoes the colostomy bag comment of 2008 I’m pleased to say (because that comment was made by a very dear friend of mine who was just being dopey and she was as upset about it as I was at the time).

I just met up with a rep from Animas because I’d enquired about looking at some alternative options for infusion sets. We went to a café down the road from my work (which will remain un-named). We were sitting there with our coffees plus a pile of different…
